 Under 19T20 Cornwall 2017 – New format for us!!

U19 T20 Club Cricket!  Do you want to play a fun shorter format version of cricket with your mates? If so, sign up to the U19T20 Cornwall Bash!!

Register your interest using the form below. We will place you into a team of your local mates, all who you currently play with or even against, you could join forces and become one to play against other created teams. You must have been born on or after 1st September 1997. 

If you are also a team you can enter!

We aim to create 5 - 6 teams, that would play 4 - 5 games over the summer across the county.

The deadline for applications is the 28^th February for player and team registration. At which point we will formulate teams set the fixtures and have some fun!

We will create a team name and you will play with pink balls. You as a team can develop your brand, play in coloured clothing and create game day experiences.

Cornwall Cricket are looking for team Champions, whose responsibility will be to make sure the team takes the field, and coordinate them during the games. If this is you then let us know that you would be happy to be a Champion.

Why have we done this, predominantly as we want to open the field, take some of the coordination away from the volunteer. We weren’t getting the numbers per club to make it viable in Cornwall, so we have to join clubs and areas to develop teams.

We hope that this format will excite people, it is fun, and in the past we have had some close matches with some excellent batting and exhilarating fielding! You could be part of this?

 The NatWest U19 Club T20  2016 : Cornwall

We have two leagues of 5 teams, one in the West and one in the East.  These are listed on ‘Play-Cricket’, but you will need to enter your fixture dates or send them to me, so I can enter them.  Each team will play the others once, so four games of cricket.  The top two in each group will progress to a County Finals Day where we will play semi-finals and a final.  This will be played in late August (based on feedback from last year).

 Each team has, nominally, two home fixtures.  These could easily be played as a single ‘home’ day, meaning that everyone organises one decent ‘festival’ type event, where they entertain their two opponents.  However, as was previously suggested by Joe, clubs are most welcome to arrange the fixtures in any way they wish, including a triangular day, where 3 teams each play 2 matches.

We have a supply of pink cricket balls for the competition and I will attempt to get these distributed to you as soon as possible.

Please get going now and arrange your fixtures, reasonably spread out over the season, but aiming to complete them all by Sunday 7^th August.  If we leave things any later, we may cause dreadful problems in trying to organise the Finals Day.

2015 Report

Sunday the 20th September 2015 saw the conclusion of the Cornwall U19 T20 competition, held at Wendron Cricket Club and including Wendron, Redruth and Gorran Cricket Clubs. These sides were victorious in their respective leagues. In total 11 of the 13 initial clubs played within the competition, many joining forces with neighbouring clubs to make up the number of players.

Game two saw a dominant Redruth win against Gorran. Redruth batted first and posted 176 / 5, with the highlight being Jack Butler scoring 50 from 28 balls to retire not out George Bolland 45 and Jamie Goldsworthy with 38 form 22 balls.  In return Gorran scored 50 / 8 wickets. Score Card 

This result saw Redruth as champions leaving the final game playing for runners up. Gorran played Wendron in the final game, Gorran won the toss and inserted Wendron, who struggled to get going. These two teams were evenly matched and ultimately Wendron scored 110 all out in their overs, and Gorran made the total with 3 overs to spare. It was looking comfortable but then Gorran started to lose some wickets at the end and with one players down they past the total with 6 wickets down. Score Card

Can you enter next year and give your players a good experience of cricket? We will be running this event next year and we would welcome clubs joining forces as these and many of the clubs have done. Make contact with your surrounding clubs and see if they have any players interested in playing, it was great fun and the feedback has been great.

Thanks must go to the three umpires for making the day go so well, Charlotte Gilbert, Ben Ellis and Frank Haines, as well as Wendron Cricket Club themselves for being excellent hosts, providing the facility and doing refreshments throughout the day. Also to Nick Matthews, DJ who provided comical moments and music to suit the occasion.

Adult Cricket Steering Group

The Cornwall Cricket League Management Committee highlighted concerns in the summer of 2014 with clubs struggling to fulfil fixtures and withdrawing teams from the League. The remit to act on this soon became apparent that it was too great for the League's Development Committee and a paper was prepared and submitted to the Cornwall Cricket Board in December 2014. It outlined a proposal to create a group under the auspices of the Director of Cricket and involving the Cricket Development Manager, the League Management Committee, current players from all tiers, Groundsmen Association and anyone who had a concern over the future of Adult cricket in Cornwall.

The Group met in February 2015 and as a result of a broad discussion the first steps are being taken - a through investigation involving a survey of players and ex players managed by hand. This wil be expanded by chatting proactively with former players. The aim is for the group to report back to the LMC, County Club and other interested Associations of the Board with findings and recommendations.

The player target area is 16 years upwards as the player drift away from the game starts and then with the next major exodus around the 25 year age group.

The ECB have also recently launched two projects aimed to help the recreational game.

The U19 Club T20 competition (above) is along the lines of the Cricket 8 Smash introduced, and played by five teams, in Cornwall in 2014. (Mt Ambrose v Wendron is in the header photo above).

Get the Game On is a campaign launched by ECB as a result of their player survey last year, the results of which saw a 7% drop of in players nationally. Following recommendations of a report commissioned by the ECB the campaign is aimed at reducing cancellations, conceded games and encouraging players back to cricket with more games played.

To help this the Cornwall Cricket Board awarded £25,245 of ECB Small Grants in February 2015, mainly for the purchase of flat covers for clubs previously without, which should see a lot more cricket played on wet days.
