CHANCE TO SHINE - National Cricket Week: Cornwall Beach20 Girls Cricket Competition

Each year through Chance to Shine Cornwall hosts the National Cricket week by delivering the annual Beach20 cricket competition for under U13 girls and U13 Boys. This competition is an integeral part of the Cornwall Chance to Shine competition calander. Perranporth Beach is used as the location for the schools festival where we have in excess of 24 Secondary schools taking part playing soft ball beach cricket. Teachers are active in scoring and umpiring throughout the afternoon helping their education.

Over the years we have been lucky with warm whether, ideal for fun cricket in this environment. The purpose of the afternoon is for the girl's to have fun and enthuise them to play cricket in school and at club level. The teachers love the event, a day umpiring and scoring with their feet in the sand rather than on a school playing field.

If your school would like to be involved in the Beach Cricket Competition please make contact, ideally you can do this through application and by being involved in Chance to Shine.

The format of the beach festival is based on Beach 20, each innings last 20 balls, five bowlers bowling 4 balls, fast and high scoring with lots of success. In this particular competition there were four leagues, three with six teams and one with 5 teams, playing a round robin. The teams played off in a semi final and then finals to find out the competition finishing order.

The winning school received, courtesy of Chance to Shine, a set of cricket kit specifically for girls cricket development, medals and trophies.

Spirit of cricket is a key for cricket at all levels, playing the game in a good fair manner, accoridng to the rules and congratulating those when they win and loose. Most importantly respecting the umpires and other players.  CCB and Chance to Shine presented a Spirit of Cricket award for the school showing this most out of all others.

Cornwall Cricket Board Ltd would like to thank Chance to Shine for supporting the event, Perranzabuloe Parish Council for allowing us to use the beach and also the RNLI who worked with us during the day. Also to all the teachers who transport and officiate throughout the festivals. Without this we would not be able to have such an excellent day and it would not be enjoyable for the girls.
