Cornwall Women’s T20 Final on 4/9
Redruth win Cornwall Women’s Cricket T20 Final
Redruth Ladies, who were unbeaten during the T20 season, defeated Grampound Road Ladies by 7 wickets in a hard fought 1st vs 2nd play-off final at Trewirgie on Sunday to become Cornwall Ladies T20 Champions.
Grampound won the toss and elected to bat. A very tight opening 8 overs from Kayleigh Richards and captain Tegan Smith saw the Road on 30 and the pressure building. Cornwall star Caitlin Burnett batted well for a fine 38 before becoming one of two stumping victims for Redruth keeper Sophie Richards. Millie Sweet (12) was the only other bat to reach double figures as Alice Bebb (2), Joleigh Roberts, Ellie Mitchell and Gemma Richards (1 each) all continued to keep the flow of runs down.
Chasing a modest 82-6, Redruth started confidently as Sophie Richards (22) and Tegan Smith (18) took Redruth to 48-1 at the half way stage. A couple of quick wickets increased the tension level but Alice Bebb (11*) and Amber Barnicoat (13*) saw Redruth home by 7 wickets with 5 balls to spare. Rosevear, Barkway and Tyrrell each picking up a wicket for Grampound.
The close fought game was a great advert for Ladies Cricket in Cornwall, with two very competitive sides who have spent several seasons developing and building a strong nucleus of players, much to both of their clubs credit, with nearly all of the girls now playing regular men’s Saturday cricket.
