Sophie gets England call up
Sophie (14), a pupil at Bodmin College, is understandably over the moon and is looking forward to the task ahead of her. She has played cricket this season for the successful Cornwall Under 15 Girls’ team, as well as the Cornwall U17 Girls, and is a member of the Cornwall Cricket Board’s Emerging Player Programme (EPP). Sophie has played a full season in the full Cornwall Women’s XI this year, top-scoring with 67 not out against Wales, and made 91 not out for St Austell at Taunton in the Women’s South-West League.
Her home club Wadebridge CC has been a huge support. A spokesman commented: ‘All at Wadebridge CC are delighted for Sophie following her recent England recognition. It is a great reward for her dedication and commitment. She is a super rôle model for all young cricketers and a lovely, modest young lady. Congratulations!’ The England U15 Development Programme begins with an initial Induction/Screening Camp this month, followed by four intensive Training Camps, stretching from November to March. Sophie will receive plenty of support and good wishes from all involved in Cornish cricket, but it will be an expensive time over the coming months. If there are any cricket-loving businesses out there who could offer some financial support, it would be greatly appreciated. Please contact Lowenna Roberts or Wadebridge CC if you would like to help.
