SOPHIE SELECTED FOR ENGLAND U19
More great news for Cornish Women’s cricket as Wadebridge’s Sophie Mackenzie has now been selected for the Under 19 England Women's Development Programme, having progressed from last season’s Under 15 squad.
That means she is in the group of the top 21 girls in the country at U19 (across 4 age-groups), though she is currently just entering the Under 16 year group.
The formal selection letter from ECB describes her as “a young cricket player with potential to become one of the world’s best players in the future” and “having having the potential characteristics required to become a future England player, ensuring that England is at the forefront of world cricket.” Winter training will include a series of three-day development camps at the National Cricket Performance Centre at Loughborough University.
Sophie played for Cornwall U15, U17 and the full County Women’s team this year, all with a great deal of success. She scored centuries for both Cornwall U17 and Devon U17! On Saturdays, she has appeared regularly for the Wadebridge men’s second team and even had a game in the first team in County Division 1.
