Grampound Road 162-8 (C Roberts 52no, D Hoskings 26, M Robins 25; R Hawken 2-36, C Hawken 2-44) beat
St Minver 96-9 (B Hawken 16, A Barton 16no; M Robins 4-26; A Ridd 2-12) by 66 runs.
Grampound Road lifted the Clive Rosevear Insurance Hawkey Cup for the fourth time in their history after completing a comfortable 66 run win over St Minver. On a fine evening at St Austell the Road elected to bat but had an early setback losing Alex May, caught and bowled by Rob Hawken. Matt Robins (25) and Tom Hughes followed with the score on 37. Following his semi-final exploits David Hoskings was at it again, hitting a couple of sixes, but he was bowled by Pieter Knoetze for 26. It made it 73 for four at the halfway mark and the game looked well balanced. St Minver, playing in only their second final, were well in contention. It was Chris Roberts that dominated the rest of the innings however hitting an unbeaten 52 that won him the ‘Tris Bax’ Man of the Match Award. He hit six boundaries off 45 balls. The last six overs produced 68 runs, with 31 coming off the last two. Josh Sharpe and Alex Ridd both got 13. Rob and Charlie Hawken both took two wickets.
St Minver were right up with the required run rate over the first five overs with 40 on the board. However they had crucially lost four key wickets. Ryan Pooley (11), Ben Hawken (16), Callum Wilson and Pieter Knoetze had all gone with Robins and Ridd picking up two each. The middle order fared little better and at 59 for seven in the eleventh over that was just about that. Alex Barton made an unbeaten 16 as the innings petered out to 96 for nine. Robins took four for 26 and Ridd two for 12.
A special award was made by CCL President Clive Rosevear to David Hoskings, in recognition of his achievement of hitting six sixes in an over in the semi-final at Gorran.
The Road will play either Penzance or St Just in the WT Edwards Cup Final on Wednesday 20th at St Austell (6pm).
