Callington defeated Newquay by just seven runs in a well contested final at St Austell.

Callington made 131 for 7 with skipper Aidan Libby making 46 not out and Murray Workman 37. They put on 52 in seven overs for the fourth wicket, after the first three fell for 31.

Newquay lost their first four wickets for 31, including Godfrey Stevens for a single, before Adam Cocking hit 56 not out and Richard Spall 36 not out to keep the result in doubt until the final over.

The 17 required proved just too much however to give Callington a first win since 2001.

Cornwall Team Manger Godfrey Furse, who was making an unexpected comeback for Newquay, with Martin Pearce (fractured hand) and Joe Crane missing, suffered an injury in the third over of the match whilst fielding.

He tripped and fell against the sight screen suffering a cut to the head that required hospital overnight attention. The good news he is back home and ok on Thursday morning.
