JOLLY’S DRINKS CORNWALL CRICKET LEAGUE

WIDE BALLS 2014

INTERMEDIATE AND STANDARD TIERS ONLY

For Display

At the League AGM in January 2014, proposals were made and passed to change the definition of a wide ball for all league matches in the Intermediate and Standard Tiers.

Unfortunately, wide ball rule 20.9 for the Intermediate Tier was incorrectly published in the current Yearbook although the summary of the AGM rule changes on page 7 of the Yearbook is correct.

The following regulations therefore apply for the 2014 season for the Intermediate and Standard Tiers; there is no change to the relevant rules for the Higher Tier.

HIGHER TIER - PREMIER & COUNTY 1

18.11

Wide Balls

18.11.1

In addition to MCC Law 25, the following   shall apply in the Higher Tier league matches and the Premier League 50/50   Cup Competition: For offside   wides, a delivery that passes outside of a line drawn (in blue) 3ft either side of the middle stump, will be called   and signalled a wide.

A legside   wide shall be called and signalled if a delivery passes the stumps outside   the line of the leg stump, but shall not be called if the ball passes between   the batsman and the line of the leg stump.

INTERMEDIATE  TIER, Divisions 2,3,4

20.9

Wide   Balls

20.9

In addition to MCC Law 25, the following   shall apply in the Intermediate Tier league matches: for offside wides, a delivery that passes outside of a line drawn (in blue) 3ft either side of the middle stump,   will be called and signalled a wide.

STANDARD  TIER, Divisions 5,6,7

21.9

Wide   Balls

21.9

In addition to MCC Law 25, the following   shall apply in the

Standard Tier   league matches: for offside wides,   a delivery that passes outside of a line drawn (in   blue) 3ft either side of the middle stump, will be called and signalled   a wide.

At the League AGM, the Intermediate and Standard clubs firmly   rejected the adoption of the Higher Tier definition of a legside wide. Therefore,   for the Intermediate and Standard Tier league matches, the legside wide   remains the “umpire’s call” based on his/her judgement in accordance with the   conditions laid down in MCC Law 25. Any departure from the AGM decision on   the legside wide definition for the Intermediate and Standard Tiers is not   permitted.
