With regret the Jolly’s Drinks Cornwall Cricket League announces that Calstock CC have had to withdraw from Division 6 East due to a shortage of players. They joined the League in 2012, having previously played in the Tamar League, and won three successive promotions before losing a number of players. The number of League Clubs has therefore been reduced to 69 – the lowest number since 1968. However the number of teams has increased from 100 to 150 in the period.

In a club statement Calstock have said “It is with great regret that we have had to inform the Cornwall Cricket League that Calstock CC will not be able to fulfil its fixtures in 2016 and have to withdraw from the league, for the moment.

At the beginning of last season the club lost 11 regular players who had been part of the club’s successful seasons 2010-14.  We struggled to field a team last season and subsequently requested to start 2016 in Division 6 with a predominantly junior side (U14).   For most of the winter it looked like we would have enough players to survive the season.  However as the season has approached we have seen nets, fundraising events, cricket-force and finally pre-season friendlies unsupported and the committee realises it is fighting a losing battle for now.

The club has invested a lot of time in setting up a junior section, running U13 and U11 teams for the last 2 seasons and being part of the Chance To Shine program.  However when one of our level 2 coaches moved on this winter, we were unable to find any other volunteer to take on a junior team.  With the prospect of losing our junior teams as well, the committee has only been left with one decision for 2016.

The club is blessed with a number of assets, including owning its own ground, so the committee intends to work to find a solution that is the best way forward for the club in the future”.

Division 6 East will now comprise of 11 teams in 2016. Calstock's players have been deregistered with the League and are available for nominations without the need for a transfer.
