Penzance Cricket Club Announcement
The 100th year of playing in the Cornwall Cricket League, saw Cornwall Premier League Club, Penzance, announce a new ten year vision for the club, at its recent, annual awards dinner.
It announced a new vision for the club over the next ten years. At its heart, is the establishment of a new cricket academy, which will not only develop youth cricketers, both boys and girls, but also build a capability to provide ECB qualified coaching to all club players, across all teams.
Brian Richards, secretary, commented that, “with the tremendous infrastructure that the club now has, which will soon include a £60,000 outdoor net complex and access to indoor net facilities at Penwith College, we were desperate to try and maximise the on field impact. The launch of a new cricket academy is a logical and exciting step.”
“Cornish cricket is flourishing and a club like Penzance should be contributing players to the county side, and out in the middle competing for trophies with the other quality teams we face. We have been fortunate that an, "old boy," who played for Penzance in the 1970s, has just returned to the county and, having spent a lot of time spectating last season, asked if he could provide more tangible assistance to the club. After several discussions, it became obvious that an academy and wider coaching provision would not only help on the field, it would also benefit the wider community and schools, plus support Cornish cricket more generally."

Brian continued, "a full time Director of Cricket Development / Head Coach, is already being sought and there will be at least two further, part time coaches, added to the team. Other components of the vision are to better engage with young cricketers in their schools and to make the game more widely available to different age groups, ladies and girls, and less able bodied people in the community. We also believe that the club can better engage with wider family members and we will be exploring opportunities for activities for the whole family, on home match days."
A new Executive Committee is to be formed to drive through the work required and Brian stressed that this is a marathon, not a sprint, hence the development of a ten year plan.
