Jolly’s Drinks Cornwall Cricket League
Premier League Statement
27 July 2015
The Jolly’s Drinks Cornwall Cricket League has noted that having postponed its Premier League programme on Saturday 25th July, in order for Cornwall players to travel to Hertfordshire for the Unicorns Trophy semi-final, that game was unable to be played due to heavy rain. It has been rescheduled, again for Harpenden, on Sunday 9th August at 11am.
With the agreement of the County Team Manager Godfrey Furse there is, unfortunately, no option but for the Premier League programme to go ahead as scheduled on Saturday 8th August. Cornwall now have away games on Sundays 2nd, 9th and 16th August. There is already a double Premier League weekend arranged on Sunday 23rd August. The League will not be asking clubs to play on Sunday 30th August, which would mean three games in three days over the August Bank Holiday weekend. The final League games take place on Saturday 5th September. The following day there is also the possibility that Cornwall might be playing in the Unicorns Counties Championship four-day final. That will be played at the winners of the Eastern Division. Interestingly Cumberland currently lead Lincolnshire, with two games to play.
The League are therefore recommending that where matches on Saturday 8th August involve selected Cornwall players that the start time be brought forward, as League Rules already permit. With around a six hour journey involved it is suggested matches start at 11am, or earlier, if mutually agreed by both clubs. This would at least give players the chance to reach Hertfordshire by around midnight!
With Cornwall travelling on the next three Saturday evenings any games that are brought forward by mutual consent please inform the League and the CACO as soon as any agreements are in place please.
The Premier 50/50 Cup arrangements will go ahead as planned. The outstanding semi-final between St Just and Grampound Road on Sunday 9th August and the winners to play Werrington, at a venue to be announced, on Sunday 6th September. Both matches start at 1pm.
