Crunch Weekend Preview
The Jolly’s Drinks ECB Cornwall Premier League comes to a climax this weekend with the title up for grabs and three clubs fighting to avoid the one relegation spot.
The title decider is at Falmouth where defending championsWerrington travel with a nine point advantage. A Falmouth win, with enough bonus points, will see them to their first county title for 21 years.
In the relegation battle Redruth are just one point ahead of St Austell, with Paul only nine points from danger. There are two huge games with St Austell hosting Paul and Redruth at home to Grampound Road.
Elsewhere the battle is on for third spot with Callington playing Truro and St Just entertaining Camborne.
The final day in County Division 1 sees four teams in danger of being relegated along with Perranarworthal. Only 10 points cover Troon, Stithians, Penzance and Wadebridge.
The key games see Troon host Penzance, Stithians entertain Roche and Wadebridge are at home to Ludgvan.
Elsewhere the champions Newquay are at Menheniot Looe and relegated Perranarworthal host Hayle.
On Sunday Falmouth and Werrington meet again in the Premier 50/50 Cup Final at St Austell at 12.30pm.
A special game is being held at Truro on Sunday (1pm) to mark the retirement of Tom Sharp as Cornwall County Cricket Club skipper. He held the post from 2002 to earlier this year, when he stood down after the MCCA Trophy quarter final at Berkshire. In a county career spanning 18 seasons he made 87 championship appearances scoring 4075 runs and taking 224 wickets. Added to that he made 55 one day appearances scoring a further 1079 runs and taking 43 wickets. He captained the county on 108 occasions in competitive matches. A Cornwall Past team will play a Cornwall Present team in a 40 over game at Boscawen Park with a raffle in aid of the Air Ambulance.
