League Statement
The Jolly’s Drinks Cornwall Cricket League have received a number of requests asking if fixtures on Bank Holiday Monday 30th May can be rescheduled.
Plymouth Argyle play AFC Wimbledon in the Sky Bet League 2 Play-off Final at Wembley Stadium at 3pm that afternoon. Only the club’s second ever visit, the previous was in 1996.
30,000 tickets have already been purchased by the ‘Green Army’, including a number by Cornish cricketers. It is also possible that others might opt to watch the Sky TV coverage in pubs and clubs, or at home, rather than play cricket on the day.
At their monthly meeting on Thursday the League Management Committee thoroughly discussed the matter and eventually agreed that as a number of players across various clubs might be involved there will inevitably be fixture concessions. One club has 20 players attending the game. A number of clubs will therefore miss out on games, whether by choice or not. The LMC have therefore agreed, as a one-off in exceptional circumstances, under Rule 6.1.2 to relax Rule 17.2 regarding the rescheduling of fixtures.
Premier League & County Division 1
To preserve the integrity of both competitions the competing clubs are being invited to vote by 23.59.59 on Sunday 22nd May to either play the matches as scheduled on Monday 30th May or move the entire fixtures on that day for the Premier League and County Division 1 to the August Bank Holiday Monday 29th August. Non returns will be regarded as a vote for the status quo. The LMC have stipulated it will be either all or nothing, thus if a wash out all clubs will be affected equally. The wishes of the majority of the 22 teams in these divisions will determine the outcome.
Divisions 2-6 East, West and Central.
As some games have already been rescheduled for August Bank Holiday Monday, and Women’s League games are also fixtured on that day, these divisions cannot be moved en bloc.
However, under Rule 6.1.2, the LMC have agreed to relax Rule 17.2 and to allow all Divison 2-6 teams, to reschedule Monday 30th May games if mutually agreeable with their opponents. In the event of a disagreement, and the game not played, it will be deemed as a concession by the defaulting club. The rescheduled date MUST be notified to the League no later than 23.59.59 on Wednesday 25th May. Should games on the rescheduled date be cancelled both sides will be awarded 6 points each. No further rescheduling will be permitted.
It will be announced on this website on Monday the outcome of the vote by Premier & County 1 Clubs.
