THE PREMIER LEAGUE 40/40 CUP COMPETITION

Read as for Premier League matches above (18.2 - 18.14), except for following:-      

18.15    

Hours and Conditions of Play    

18.15.1

All matches to start at 1.00 p.m. on fixed dates set by the LMC. Refer to 18.2.1.1.

18.15.2

Each match will consist of 80 overs maximum. 

18.15.3

If the start of the match is delayed or the match is interrupted during the first innings for any reason, the umpires shall determine the number of overs to be deducted.

18.15.3.1

The overs available to each side shall be reduced by one over for every seven/six  minutes of  any delay or
interruption to the first innings, provided that the overs available to each side does not fall below 20.

18.15.4

The competition shall be played in two stages.   

Part 1.  Teams will be grouped into two geographical area leagues of 5 teams. In each League teams to play each other once. The LMC will decide the composition of each area league. The winners of their respective leagues will go forward to a final to be played at the earliest opportunity.

Part 2.   The final to be held on a Sunday at a neutral ground; the League to supply umpires, balls & teas.

18.15.5

Every player shall be qualified and registered as per League rules 14 & 15; any player having played in the Premier League Cup Competition in the current season shall be “cup tied” and not be eligible to play for any other club in that competition in the current season.

For all matches except the Final of the Premier League Cup Competition, rule 18.10 and subsections shall apply. For the Finals, any bowling side that fails to achieve 17 overs per hour shall lose 10 runs for every one over or part over per hour by which they fall short of the requirement.          Applicable to games of 40 plus overs only

18.16    

Duration of Innings

18.16.1  

Each side shall bat for no more than 40 overs. 

18.16.2 

Should the side batting first be dismissed in less than 40 overs the side batting second shall be entitled to bat for 40 overs maximum.

18.17        

Intervals

18.17.1   

Tea Interval - 30 minutes maximum. To be taken between innings unless otherwise agreed by Captains. (18.4.1.1 – 18.4.1.4 above not to apply)

18.17.2

Drinks Intervals - 5 minutes maximum. To be taken after 20 overs of each innings unless otherwise agreed by Captains.

18.18       

Match Balls  Refer to 18.7 apart from 18.7.1 to read

Each side shall provide one new Pink Windsor ball.

18.19     

Scoring of Points (within area leagues)

18.19.1

Match Points shall be awarded as follows:-

10 points for outright win             7points for tie or draw with the scores level            

6 points for cancellation or abandonment as decided by appointed umpires.

18.19.2

Bonus Points in area league games shall be awarded as 18.8.4 above.

18.19.3

In the event of two or more teams within an area league having an equal number of points at the conclusion of the area games, the higher position shall be the team with the most away wins, or, if still equal, the team with the highest net run rate over all 4 area league matches. If still equal, the winner will be decided by the toss of a coin.

18.20

The Final

18.20.1

In the event of a tie in the Final, the winner shall be decided on:

1.  number of wickets remaining  at the end of the innings or, if still equal,

2.  the number of runs scored off the bat, or if still equal

3.  the side dismissing more batsmen clean bowled or, if still equal

4.  the title shall be shared

18.20.2

If the Final has reduced overs per side due to weather, light or ground conditions, each side must have faced or had the opportunity to face a minimum of 20 full overs per innings to constitute a match. If this minimum number of overs is not met for both teams (unless either is dismissed in less than 20 overs), the match may be considered abandoned and will be re-scheduled by the LMC.

18.20.2.1

In the Final if each side has faced "or" had the opportunity to face more than 20 full overs per innings, but a team be unable to complete its allotted overs due to weather, light of ground conditions, the target score for the team batting second will always be based on the average run rate achieved in the innings.

18.20.2.2

If there is a delay before the Final starts or during the 1st innings, the match overs available to each side shall be reduced by one over for every seven/six  minutes of  any delay or interruption to the first innings, provided that the overs available to each side  does not fall below 20.  Subject to AGM vote                                                         

18.21

Free Hit after a No Ball

18.21.1

The delivery following any no ball shall be a free hit for whichever batsman is facing it. If the delivery for the free hit is not a legitimate delivery (any kind of no ball or a wide ball) then the next delivery will become a free hit for whichever batsman is facing it.

18.21.2

For any free hit, the striker can be dismissed only under the circumstances that apply for a no ball, even if the delivery for the free hit is called wide ball.

18.21.3

Field changes are not permitted for free hit deliveries unless there is a change of striker save that in all circumstances, any fielder within 15 yards of the striker may retreat to a position on the same line no more than 15 yards from the striker.

18.22

Fielding Restrictions & Powerplays

18.22.1

At the instant of delivery, there may be not more than 5 fieldsmen on the leg side .

18.22.2

In addition to the restriction contained in clause 18.19.1 above, further fielding restrictions shall apply to certain overs in each innings. The nature of such fielding restrictions and the overs during which they shall apply  are set out in the following paragraphs.

18.22.3

The following fielding restrictions shall apply:

a) Two semi-circles shall be drawn on the field of play. The semi-circles shall have as their centre the middle stump at either end of the pitch. The radius of each of the semi-circles shall be 30 yards (27.43 metres). The semi-circles shall be linked by two parallel straight lines drawn on the field. The fielding restriction areas should be marked by continuous painted white lines or ‘dots’ at 5 yard (4.57 metres) intervals, each ‘dot’ to be covered by a white plastic or rubber (but not metal) disc measuring 7 inches (18 cm) in diameter.

At the instant of delivery:

a) Powerplay 1 – no more than two fieldsmen shall be permitted outside this fielding restriction area. In an innings of 40 overs, these are overs 1 to 8 inclusive.

b) Powerplay 2 – no more than four fieldsmen shall be permitted outside this fielding restriction area. In an innings of 40 overs, these are overs 9 to 32 inclusive.

c) Powerplay 3 – no more than five fieldsmen shall be permitted outside this fielding restriction area. In an innings of 40 overs, these are overs 33 to 40 inclusive.

18.22.4

In circumstances when the number of overs of the batting team is reduced, the number of overs within each phase of the innings shall be reduced in accordance with the table below. For the sake of clarity, it should be noted that the table shall apply to both the 1st and 2nd innings of the match.

18.22.5

If play is interrupted during an innings and the table above applies, the appropriate Powerplay takes immediate effect. For the avoidance of doubt this applies even if the interruption has occurred mid-over.

Illustrations

A 40 over innings is interrupted after 8.3 overs and reduced to 32 overs. The new phases are 7+19+6.    

Therefore the middle phase fielding restrictions take immediate effect when play resumes and last for a further 17.3 overs. The final phase begins after 26 overs have been bowled.

A 40 over innings is interrupted after 18.5 overs and reduced to 22 overs. The new phases are 5+13+4. When play resumes, the final phase fielding restrictions apply for the remaining 3.1 overs.

 18.22.6

At the commencement of the middle and final phases of an innings, the umpire shall signal such commencement to the scorers by rotating his arm in a large circle.

18.22.7

The scoreboard shall indicate the current Powerplay in progress

18.22.8

In the event of an infringement of any of the above fielding restrictions, the square leg umpire shall call and signal ‘No Ball’.

18.22.9

In the event of the striker’s end Umpire failing to call and signal No Ball when the fielding restrictions in this playing condition have been breached or when Law 41.5 has been breached (at the point of delivery, not more than two fielders other than the wicketkeeper shall be behind the popping crease on the on side), immediately the ball becomes dead the striker may draw the matter to that Umpire’s attention. If the striker’s end Umpire is able to verify the breach he shall call and signal No Ball. If the striker’s end Umpire is unable to verify the breach then he shall confirm that the events of the delivery shall be unchanged.

18.23

Coloured Clothing (not predominantly pink or red) is permitted and optional in any 40/40 match
