The LMC has investigated the current status of Troon’s playing strength. As a result of that information, they have decided not to enforce League Rule 10.8, that the 2nd XI step up to County 1 to fulfil the 1st team fixtures, given the relative inexperience and young ages of the 2nd XI players. The 2nd XI will therefore be listed in Division 2 West as Troon 1^st XI.

In accordance with League Rule 11.1.9.2, where a vacancy occurs before 1^st February, relegated Menheniot Looe CC were offered to be reinstated. They have accepted and will replace Troon.   In a statement club secretary Alan Sedgley said “Consultation with 1st XI squad members and a wider informal consultation took place. The club is keen to play at the highest level possible”.

As a result it is the League’s intention to fill the ensuing vacancy in Division 2 East. In turn vacancies will also need to be filled in each of Divisions 3, 4 and 5 East.

The relevant clubs, with first refusal, have been contacted and when the divisions have all been confirmed the revised listings and fixtures will be announced. The original fixtures were released on 10 January in the belief the divisions were settled.

Depending on the final make-up it looks likely that eight or nine of the 13 divisions will now see alterations with five teams promoted to play in a higher division. In all at least 20 teams will have to receive new index numbers across the schedules, to ensure ground sharers have opposite home and away fixtures.

The ECB Cornwall Premier League, and Premier 50/50 Cup fixtures, should remain unaltered. However, in addition to all five eastern divisions, County Division One will have to be altered significantly to accommodate the changes to 2^nd XI ground sharers in the Eastern Section. This will then have a knock on effect with some revisions in Divisions 3 & 5 West also likely.

It is hoped to publish the revised divisions, and fixture lists, later this week.

Shortly before the commencement of the League AGM, on 28 January, Troon Cricket Club indicated to League Chairman, Vic Hassell, that they wished to withdraw from County Division 1 for the 2015 season.

Owing to the loss of a number of first XI players due to “player transfers, long term injuries and unavailability caused by family and work commitments” Troon stated that they will only be able to field one XI this year. By moving down it was felt to be “the best chance of sustaining the survival of a proud Cornish club with 140 years of history”. The intention is to re-enter a second XI, at the lowest level, for 2016. Their young second team, which regularly included seven teenagers, won division three last year. The 2015 season will be Troon’s 97^th consecutive playing season in the Cornwall League, having joined in 1908. They were ever presents in the Senior League until being relegated for the first time in 2004. This season will be their first in the third tier. They were County Champions in 1947, 1979, 1981 and 1995. They were also won the inaugural Haig National Village Championship at Lord’s in 1972. They repeated the feat in 1973 and 1976 and were losing finalists in 1983. In a club statement Chairman Alan Thomas has said “Thanks to all the members of the LMC for granting our request. This decision gives our club the chance to regroup and hopefully, with time, regain its former glory”. 

All clubs are  advised at this stage  not to go ahead with any publishing of fixture cards/brochures etc until the divisions have been confirmed.
